It was a 2 hour and a half stretch from Mumbai to Daman, and since we brought our own vehicle the trip took us a little longer than expected. Of course, you have those little tea breaks in between especially if you have good company. The plan was to find a resort hotel by the beach front which we already researched before the trip, have an afternoon nap, have a nice drink while listening to the sound of waves as it hits the shore, have authentic Gujarati cuisine and do that for two days.
There are 2 main beaches, Devka and Jampore. The first one has the dark sand and offers a line of hotels to choose from however none of them have any beach access due to some construction going on. The latter have a better looking beach but doesn't offer any accommodation around it and so it leaves us without any option but look for a place near Devka Beach. After several hours of looking for a good, decent, and reasonable place to stay, we failed. We found it pricey and the value for money isn't worth it as the beach itself doesn't even look appealing nor relaxing at least. And so we moved to the city proper and decided to settle in one of the 3 star hotels, the Sterling Daman. Honestly, we stayed because we are so exhausted in searching and the booking was non-refundable and that was after seeing the place.
St. Jerome Fort |
Fishing Jetty |
BOM Jesus Church |
Searching for a place to stay made us see most of Daman. Forts, some very old churches like the BOM Jesus, fishing jetty, colorful houses and buildings which also shows Portuguese influences with the architectural design, and of course the beaches are just to name a few.
A lot of construction work is happening around, preparation for the peak summer season some people said. Everything closes up here at around 10 pm so ensure have your dinner early and if you're planning to have drink, have it early too if you can 😀.
We ended up staying just for a night as there isn't much for us to see. We heard that Silvassa was a better place to see and so off we go!
xoxo
